The economy is mainly based on agriculture with rice, corn, vegetables, root crops, watermelon and mangoes as the main products. The fishing sector, once a vibrant source of food and income, is in need of rehabilitation following the onslaught of lahar flows resulting from the Mount Pinatubo eruption. There is a growing retail and service sector in the district along the National Road. Light industry has yet to develop in the community to provide much-needed jobs. Ilocano, Kapampangan and Pangasinan are commonly spoken, with Tagalog and English being used as the official languages of secondary education, business and administration. Moncada is 153 kilometers (95 mi) from Manila and 29 kilometers (18 mi) from the provincial capital, Tarlac City. It is accessible via the MacArthur Highway and from Manila via the NLEX (North Luzon Expressway), SCTEX (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway) and TPLEX (TarlacPangasinanLa Union Expressway).
