In 1788, it was formally established. This settlement allegedly used to be a part of Porac, Pampanga. The first indigenous community that the Spaniards settled during the Spanish Period was Tarlac City. In a sitio called Porac, Tarlac was established as a praesidio (fort) as early as 1593. By 1788, Tarlac had developed into a civic town that was separate from Porac. Before 1788, Don Carlos Miguel and Don Narciso Castaeda, along with their families and followers, trekked through the forests and hills of Porac and Bamban until they finally arrived and settled down in what is now known as Tarlac City. They were among the early settlers who came from Bacolor, Pampanga.
Tarlac is best known for its fine foods and vast sugar and rice plantations, and its fine cooking scene is due to its position as the crossroads of four major cultures.
